Tapping

What To Do With Your Pick

Most guitar players play with a pick and most guitar players hold their pick with there index finger and thumb. When tapping, you use your picking fingers to tap on to the guitar fretboard, but what are you supposed to do with your pick.

Well if you going to do any sort of extending tapping section, it might be in your best interest to just lose the pick all together. You could just throw it somewheres and pick it up later or pick up a new one, or you could hold it with your lips.

There is a way though when playing with a pick to free up your fingers but to keep your pick handy for when you need it later. You can place your pick inside your palm and hold it there, this would free up all of your fingers. Another option is to use one finger and wrap it around the pick. This frees up all but one of your fingers.

Another option is to just leave the pick where it is and to tap with your 2nd finger. Or you could tap with your 1st finger but to hold the pick with your 2nd finger and thumb. Both of these options will work, but you because your thumb is still being used to hold your pick, you are unable to use it to grab on to the neck for that added stability.
