Jazz Chords With The Root On The 5th String

The same method is used to alter barre chords with the root on the 5th string into 7th chords, but instead of moving down the notes on the 3rd string and removing the notes on the 5th and 1st strings you move down the notes on the 4th string and remove just the notes on the 1st string. The first example demonstrates how to build a major 7th chord.

The next example builds a dominant 7th chord. Remember that Part I had the roots on the 6th string, while Part II has the roots on the 5th string.

The last example builds a minor 7th chord.
